Questions to Ask Yourself When You’re Stuck in a Rut

From time to time we all get stuck in a rut.

That weird place where you may feel low energy, unmotivated, and/or unsure of where you’re headed.

Sometimes it can feel like sadness or even frustration.

First, this is normal. You are a human so there will always be an ebb and flow of your emotions.

Second, be gentle and kind to yourself. Seriously, this is sometimes the hardest for the women I work with. We are just so stinkin’ hard on ourselves, and for what? It only hurts us.

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut or certain mood or just feeling blah, then I encourage you to work through the questions listed below.

Grab a piece of paper and pen or your favorite journal/notebook. Then, find a spot where you feel comfortable and safe. Then, start free-flow writing your responses to the questions below. No pressure. No judgement. Just see what comes out.

The first two may seem silly, but, so often as women, we forget to take care of ourselves. We are caring for others and/or moving so fast through our day, that these basics can unintentionally go by the wayside.

Questions to ask yourself when you’re feeling stuck or in a rut:

  1. First thing’s first. Start with the basics. Am I hungry, in need of hydration, or sleep deprived?

  2. Have I moved my body today?

  3. What 1-2 areas of my life am I most unhappy with? (Family, career, friends, health, etc.)

  4. What is one action step I can take to create change in the 1-2 areas I identified?

  5. What are 3 things you are thankful for in this moment? Pause and notice the feeling of gratitude inside like a beautiful shimmering light.

  6. What’s one thing I’m looking forward to? If nothing comes up, then that’s a huge sign that you need to plan something. Lunch with a friend, a night out with the girls, a massage for yourself, a weekend away with your partner, etc.

Let me know how it goes with the prompts. Cheering you on!❤️
